Target Practice:
Hit Your Goals
Did you make New Year's resolutions and set them aside? You are
not alone. Life is a process and so is goal attainment. Although
research studies show that those who set goals are more likely to
meet them, there is an additional set of requirements to reach success:
Emotional Motivation
Write your goals down and prioritize them. Specific goals are better.
Planning to lose twenty pounds through a particular diet and exercise
routine is easier to put into place than a vague plan.
Time Awareness
Do your important and least favorite tasks first. Break goals into
sub-goals; they will seem reachable and easier to schedule. Changing
your financial situation may be easier by separating the tasks into
tax preparation, bill paying, and refinancing the house.
Reframed Thinking
Change your viewpoint of a situation. Sorting and re-sorting through
the mail without throwing anything away zaps our energy needlessly.
Sort mail into immediate, attend to later (i.e. bimonthly bill paying
days), and "into the wastebasket". On the other hand,
not all "junk mail" is a trash can item.
Daily Commitment
Reduce your stress through moderate exercise, healthy food, visualizations
and other choices that fit your individual lifestyle and preferences.
Spiritual leaders meditate a half hour everyday except when they
are very busy; then they meditate an hour.
Spirituality
To move toward life dreams without worry and fear nipping at our
heels is a delightful way to live. This takes time and persistence
to understand and to hit our goals - target practice, so to speak.
May each of you be successful on your journey.
